Clearly defining your worries and anxieties helps make them more manageable. Usually when I feel anxious, uncertain, or frustrated, it’s because I haven’t taken the time to clearly define what exactly is bothering me. I pretend to know but I just have a bunch of fuzzy, anxious thoughts that weigh me down.

When you don’t pinpoint what’s bothering you, it seems like there’s much more to worry about than there actually is. Dealing with one or two clearly defined problems is much easier than having dozens of vague anxieties floating around inside your head. Known monsters are less scary than unknown monsters.

Some questions I‘ve found useful to ask myself:
– “What specifically about this situation is causing me to feel uncertain, frustrated, anxious, etc?”
– “What is the real obstacle/problem I am facing?”
– “Is this problem or obstacle real?”
– “Why do I believe this is a problem?”
– “Are my beliefs about my situation absolutely true?”
