This also works for other emotional states you want to recreate. For instance, the other day, someone messaged me saying they sometimes find themselves in an elevated, peaceful state but seem to slip out of it “randomly.” They wanted to know how to get into that state more frequently. The response I gave this person might also be helpful to others, so I thought I'd share it here. My response was:

“I would start by documenting the times you feel you are in that elevated, peaceful state. I recommend carrying around a small notepad for this purpose rather than using your phone. Each time you feel you are in that peaceful state, pause for a few minutes and write down the following items:

– what time of day it is
– who you are with
– what you are doing
– where you are
– what you are thinking about
– what you are eating (or have been eating that day)

Do this for a few weeks and you will start to see patterns. These patterns will give you clues as to what might be contributing to your elevated peaceful state. Recreate and repeat.”

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is: “What books do you recommend?”
