Most people are afraid to pursue their most important dreams because they feel that they don’t deserve them, or that they’ll be unable to achieve them. You must not believe these lies.

You know that goal you think you need to achieve in order to feel like you've “made it?” Well, guess what? Someone else has already achieved that goal…and they don't feel like they've made it.

When you finally reach that place you've always wanted to reach, it just allows you to see the next level more clearly, which causes you to want to achieve new and better things.

This cycle is fine, as long as you're not relying solely on new achievements to make you happy or to validate your worth. Otherwise, you'll get caught up in an endless cycle of feeling unsatisfied with what you have and where you are, sometimes called the “hedonic treadmill.”

It turns out that the happiest people are not externally motivated but rather intrinsically motivated. They focus more on process based goals rather than outcome based goals. Process based goals are still measurable and time-bound but they focus on habits instead of outcomes.

Outcome based goal: Lose 20 pounds
Process based goal: Go to the gym 4 days a week

I'm not saying you shouldn't have outcome based goals. But it's important to keep everything in perspective. Are you doing it for the accolades or awards? Or are you doing it for yourself?

Don't do it because you think it will make you happy, solve all your problems, or please others. This is a recipe for unhappiness. Do it for the sake of doing it. Do it because it feels good and because it's exciting. Do it because you want to. Do it for YOU. This is where you'll find long term happiness and fulfillment.
